About the Directorate
The Directorate of Information and Health Research was first established in the year 1993 with a mission to gather statistical records and information about entities working in the healthcare field. The information about these entities is gathered from Healthcare related entities operating across the kingdom, and it is used for planning purposes, and research. When it was first established, this entity was known as the Ministry of Health’s Information Center but today it has evolved to become the central source of information for all issues relevant to the health care center, and it is also the entity referred to for this purpose by the National Information Center. This entity also works assists the Ministry of Telecommunication and Information Technology in issues pertaining to the E-Government project, and it also assists in the licensing processes pertaining to Microsoft programs.

 
Vision
We strive to contribute to the process of developing and upgrading Healthcare related services provided in the Kingdom, and to elevate the health status in Jordan. We work to achieve this goal by providing researchers, health care specialists, decision makers, and other interested parties with accurate and authentic healthcare records, and other bits of related information they may need.

Mission
Our mission is to offer health care related information that may be used for the purposes of planning, research, and decision-making.

Values

Roles and Responsibilities
1. To work and to update the healthcare information system
2. To supervise the Computer hardware systems, and the software systems available at the Ministry of Health and to accordingly update them so that they comply with the ministry’s future plans
3. To provide and to update the healthcare information resources for both the Internet and the intranet
4. To provide relevant health related information to both Jordanian and international entities in need of it
5. To train staff members working in the ministry on how to use computer devices, programs, and other relevant equipment
6. To coordinate with the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology on issues pertaining to the E-Government project


The Directorate’s Departments and their Roles

The Department of Programming and Development and its Roles
1. To issue programs and application solutions for the Directorate and some of the other entities working under the Ministry of Health’s umbrella and in accordance with the available resources
2. To run periodical check ups on different software programs used by the Directorate and other related entities, and to check their level of functionality in accordance with the entities’ needs. According to the results of these check ups programs are upgraded as needed and in accordance with resources available
3. To update the directorate’s information resources and to update the Ministry of Health’s websites as needed
4. To provide easy Internet access to websites owned by and related to the ministry of health
5. To follow up on all maintenance contracts related to the software programs used by related entities
6. To study all offers pertaining to software programs, and to transfer suitable ones to the Directorate of Purchasing. A specialized committee often studies such offers
7. To compile all the necessary reports that are later to be used by the Ministry of Health for the purpose of the compilation of its own annual report
8. To update the Ministry’s Geographical Positioning System (GIS), and to place these updates on the Internet

The Department of Information and Research
1. To compile relevant information about the ministry of Health and other relevant healthcare related entities
2. To issue an annual statistical report
3. To issue a periodical informative report titled “ Information and Studies Geared Towards Better Health”
4. To provide students and researchers with healthcare related information as needed

The Department for Follow Up of Obituaries and Disease Frequency
1. To provide a classification system through which the Directorate may classify different causes of heath within the Kingdom
2. To record the different diseases infecting patients in the Kingdom’s hospitals
3. To issue an annual report about the different causes of death seen in Jordan
4. To train doctors and other medical specialists on how to fill in forms relevant to cases of death they may encounter
5. To train doctors and medical specialists working in both the Ministry of Health’s hospitals and other Hospitals in the Kingdom on how to use the international ICD –10 classification system for the recording of diseases
6. To analyse causes of death according to their records
7. To exchange information with the Passports Department and the Department of Civil Services

The Department of E-Government
1. To develop and to create implementation plans relevant to the E-Government and especially those plans relevant to the Ministry of Health
2. To implement strategies that support information systems designed to adhere with the goals of the E-government project
3. To coordinate with other relevant departments and to ensure those budgets cover the costs of providing and the relevant software, information systems and infrastructures needed for the project’s implementation
4. To promote the availability of technologies needed for the implementation of relevant programs within the organization
5. To provide the means for constructing the organization’s IT vision
6. To implement services in accordance with people’s needs
7. To create a realistic yet ambitious plan for the implementation of E-Government projects within the organization
8. To run the department and to supervise its team members’ performance

Network and Maintenance Department
1. To provide periodic maintenance services for all PCs and other technical equipments owned by the Ministry and its Directorates and that are not maintained and repaired through external contracts
2. To study tenders pertaining to computer devices and technological networking and that have been accepted by the Jordanian Tenders Committee
3. To asses the needs of the technical needs of the directorates working under the Ministry’s umbrella and to list the specifications of networks and computer devices needed
4. To issue tenders for the purchasing of computer devices and other networking equipments to be used by the ministry
5. To follow up on annual contracts pertaining to Internet services provided
6. To follow up on contracts pertaining to the maintenance of computers and other networking services
7. To issue reports on the numbers of personal computers, networking devices and other relevant  equipment owned by the ministry of health and entities working under its umbrella
8. To install and update licenses of virus scanning programs

Department of Training
1. To provide the ministry’s employees with training programs relevant to Windows, Excel, Word, Power Point, and Internet
2. To renew and verify contracts for training programs conducted in other Directorates working with the Ministry 
3. To ensure that the training centre is ready for training sessions conducted by other entities working under the umbrella of the Ministry
4. To issue reports on the training courses the directorate conducts and hosts each year
5. To form discussion panels on the training offered by the directorate
